Nakanishi-san is the sole inheritor of a centuries-old family tradition, specializing in the creation of Ubai, an ash-infused smoked plum used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries to treat a variety of health conditions.
Mastery of this intricate craft has been passed down through generations, with each generation honing and perfecting the techniques before entrusting them to the next.
Presently, Ubai is produced only in Tsukigase, Nara, by Nakanishi-san.
Plum blossoms are a sight to behold and many people visit Tsukigase village every year for plum blossom festivals.
Safflower Rouge has been used in Japan for centuries. You will learn the history of Ubai and can choose either experience, the traditional Safflower and Ubai dyeing, or making Safflower Rouge.
Experience the magic of Spring firsthand and soak in the panoramic plum blossom vistas of Baikoan.
